RESTED & READY: NEW YEAR, SAME ME!
I wrote a piece a few days ago titled mind over matter. I put it into practice yesterday and like that quote I cannot take credit for, “where focus goes, energy flows”, I’m proof that you CAN change your mindset. You CAN calm it down and subsequently, speed it up to get yourself pumped for a meeting or sporting event.
I love and believe in that mindset so much I put it on a sweatshirt. Yeah, I did. One, for myself because I love a vibe I can both wear and feel and two, for you! A visual, a reminder and hopefully a permanent habit by the time January closes. Click here to view and to order.
My backstory on this entry or rather, my yesterday story is what prompted this piece. Sunday is typically my rest day and its only rest from training because life itself still must go on. Yesterday was different. I chilled almost the entire day, by myself while doing not a whole lot. I made the intention, didn’t think I could (I mean, virtually nothing all day, who am I?), told myself “I got this” and did just that. Guilt free.
Don’t get it twisted, there were things to be done and my mind didn’t just quiet down and eventually switch off. I had my little idea notebook beside me so that I could jot down any new blog and/or business ideas so I don’t forget them – you know, be prepared! My mind was racing, and I was visualizing my growing to-do list until eventually I almost gave in. It was Jan 1st, the first page of 365, time to get shit done, no time to waste etc etc. I didn’t. I went into that mind over matter mode.
First, I made myself my new favourite hot cocoa from Q Sciences and went to watch a few Episodes of Wednesday which, my daughter has been telling me to finish so we can talk about it. She was so happy when I told her where I was in the show, and we laughed about the storyline up until where I watched.
None of the above may seem like big deal and nothing about it is complicated but, they’re my feelings and moments and I’m the only one who is able to control it. Stay the course, rest, pivot and even change it. Also, being able to chat and laugh with my daughter about a show gave me the warm and fuzzies. So there’s that!
Many are feeling overwhelmed right now and not about taking a rest day, I know this. My yesterday is what many are feeling and will be feeling in days to come and especially the first couple of weeks of the year. Getting back to the day to day on top of getting to that list of 2023 goals or resolutions. Remember, it’s your list and the only person you need to compete with or impress or challenge – IS YOU. Feeling excited, energized, ready BUT also nervous, scared and/or overwhelmed about the big things you want to achieve this year? Good. You’re ready!
My “day one of 365” turned into a day of rest and gratitude. Today, I’m the same person who just took a time out and frankly, will take more.
Have a great week!
do you do your best january keep it simple new year same you
