REMEMBER YOUR WHY | YOU’RE STRONG ENOUGH TO KEEP GOING

Do you ever wonder why you’re doing or started doing something? I’m talking about on those tough days or like I call it, “character building days”. The days it takes a little extra effort to go to the gym, do the activity, or you need to think a little harder on the project. Days where you find no creative juices flowing? Yeah, those. Ever have them?
I’m going to put everyone’s mind at ease and say IT’S NORMAL! We will all have these days because well, if everything we’re doing is easy then everyone will do it. Facts. It doesn’t mean we’re weak, failing or want to quit just because we’re asking “WHY”. It’s okay to go back to your why from time to time and it’s absolutely okay to ask the question to ensure that you’re on the right path. It helps you stay on track and stick to your initial goal. These days, it’s easy to veer off the path, entertain the outside noise, compare ourselves to others, and just take on more. That is when we start feeling overwhelmed and start questioning our intentions and our path.
I absolutely have those days. Back in my corporate days I made it my mantra to always go back to the project goal. With multiple stakeholders on projects and the many egos I had to deal with, it was crucial for my sanity. We may have been working on the same project, but I learnt hard and fast that most people around the boardroom table had their own agenda.
I’ve also felt it in my personal life, boxing life and trying to build a brand and a small business yes, yes and yes! Recently, I had to remind myself why I started this blog. I had to take myself back to the initial “WHY” because I was feeling all the things. In fact, if you’ve been here a while you’ll know that I only wrote two pieces last year and even though circumstances were different, it weighed on me BUT I gave myself a little grace. Here’s more on that back story ICYMI!
I started this blog back in November 2017 with one mission in mind – to let everyone and anyone know that YES. YOU. CAN. It has nothing to do with age, sex or size and it’s never too late to start. That said, I had that first post sitting in my drafts for months! It had to be perfect or else it wasn’t going to be good enough and then one day, someone (a male friend actually) made a comment on a picture that I thought was absolutely beautiful and that is what pushed me to hit the publish button. Why? Because I could, because I believed in myself and the message I was putting out, and because I wanted to start telling the world that those types of comments are projection and insecurities and we shouldn’t take it on.

Onward we go and for me, coming back to why I started this blog, started and still growing the Strong Is My Beautiful™ brand and shop is what keeps one foot moving in front of the other. I believe that through my work as a boxing coach and personal trainer, I’ve created safe and strong spaces for everyone. I know my audience is mainly teen girls and women BUT I have the support of many men in my life and the brand resonates with them also. For that I am truly thankful.
A question I get asked repeatedly – what’s the reward? That is a topic that deserves its own space BUT the reward is simple. I’m doing something right. I’ll explain….
Seeing a young child walk into the gym shy, sunken shoulders and makes minimal eye contact with you or anyone else. Watching them session after session get better, walk taller and start giving knuckles to other boxers and coaches without being prompted. Some kids open up and you hear their stories and struggles and sometimes a parent will share some of the family dynamics but watching them overcome it, seeing a twinkle in their eyes….that’s why.
Watching a mom making a comeback from years of not pouring into herself – career, marriage struggles, raising kids or even single parenting to name a few. Watching her get stronger, more confident and just simply showing up for herself is so badass and I get to be a part of that!
I also coach groups of women who have survived various forms of violence and trauma. Working with them and seeing them overcoming and working through their strugggles and again, showing up, participating and engaging with the group, well that speaks for itself.
If my words can help one person, my heart is happy. If my training sessions and classes can uplift, motivate provide strength (internal and/or other), my heart sings and if all that I do resonates with the people I put it out to, my heart feels like it will explode with love, gratitude and appreciation.
Showing up for yourself is strength. Standing ten toes down on what you believe in is brave and it’s beautiful. So, when you have those moments of doubt or need to ask yourself “why”, take a rest, refuel and keep going! I see you.
